Micah’s First Daddy Day

How do I put into words how amazing a father he is? How do I describe the way Caleb’s eyes light up when he walks into the room? The way he gets this big gummy grin, then acts shy and buries his face in my neck as Micah tickles his little feet. How could I even attempt to portray the look of utter joy, contentment, peace, and delight that come across Micah’s face as Caleb reaches out to him and then snuggles close to his chest.

I simply can’t.

We all have fathers, but to us, it seems as though they have always been a father, that there was never a time that they weren’t “dad” (and for us, there wasn’t). But, as hard as it is to believe, there WAS a time when they were carefree newlyweds, crazy college studies, awkward teenagers… but with Micah, I’ve been blessed to see him become a Dad.

One of the traits that Micah shares with his Dad is their love of babies. If there is a baby in the room, Micah will be holding it. I love that about him. One of the reasons that I fell in love with him, and definitely one of the reasons why I married him was because I knew that he would be a wonderful father to our children.

What makes him a great dad? Especially to a 3-month old?

1. He’s willing to change diapers
2. He’ll hold Caleb for hours with complaints
3. He’ll get down on his hands and knees to play with him
4. He’ll make the sillies faces without caring how silly he does look
5. He cares about Caleb’s upbringing, encouraging me to breastfeed and do everything we can to help him grow big and strong
6. He’s a strong role model and a true Man of God, a good, godly example for Caleb
7. He will always be faithful to God, to me, and to his family
8. He can’t wait to spend time with his son, taking him fishing, camping, hunting, teaching him how to climb trees and how to change the oil in a car
9. He knows that playing with Caleb is better than any toy that we could buy
10. He loves his son

Thank you for being such a wonderful daddy to our son.
He loves you and so do I.

Here’s a few pictures from father’s day:

Caleb sleeps with us, but he usually stirs a bit when I get up in the morning, which is ALWAYS before Micah. So they can both sleep longer, Micah usually pats Caleb or holds him in the crook of his arm for a while. On Sunday morning I came back from the bathroom and found this:

That afternoon, Micah got to play with his son while the raindrops pitter-pattered outside.

He had SO much fun, just zooming Caleb around and listening to him laugh.
